Brotherhood Mutual Adds Health Benefits Option

Potential cost savings for churches and their staff

Christian ministry employers will have a new option in the search for affordable health benefits for their employees that could save them money.

Through an alliance with Remodel Health, Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company, headquartered in Indiana, is rolling out this new service in pilot locations and then will extend the offering nationally. Employee health benefits can be expensive, complicated, and difficult to manage. By using the Remodel Health software platform, churches average a 35 percent cost savings.

The health benefits software platform helps faith-based employers evaluate the potential cost savings by moving from a traditional group plan to a variety of healthcare options. This means employers can manage and offer a cost-effective option, while employees are empowered to design their own health benefits based on their doctor preference, carrier preference, and the coverage levels that fit their lifestyle. Healthcare options include individual health plans, which typically cost 20-30 percent less than group plans.

As Brotherhood Mutual insurance agents and staff work with ministry leaders on property, liability, workers’ comp, and mission travel insurance needs, they are asked daily about health insurance options. For many ministries, the biggest line item in their budget is the employee health plan. With escalating costs, many faith-based employers are caught between the reality of their budget and their desire to care for their employees’ health.

“At Brotherhood Mutual our mission is to advance the kingdom by serving the church. It is at the heart of everything we do. As a partner in ministry, we want to make sure our customers can protect their budgets. Offering affordable health benefits was a logical next step,” said Mark Robison, chairman and president, Brotherhood Mutual. “We are blessed to have found the folks at Remodel Health, a company that also is
focused on serving Christian ministries. By working together, we advance the kingdom in a new way.”

Remodel Health, also headquartered in Indiana, was founded in 2015 by experts in the health insurance industry. With a goal of revolutionizing employee benefits through technology, transparency and choice, Remodel Health is a faith-friendly benefits software platform designed to help faith-based employers.

“At the root of our company are people of faith who believe in serving the Church, so they can serve the world,” said Scott Lingle, CEO, Remodel Health. “We’re excited to work with a like-minded company. Brotherhood Mutual will use our software platform to help ministry leaders identify and analyze various health benefit plans. Employers will be able to review options, make a decision, and provide their people with access to affordable health insurance options.”
