And many more.
ICHRA is becoming the enterprise standard
The individual coverage health reimbursement arrangement (ICHRA) is a flexible, cost-controlled alternative to traditional group health insurance. With it, enterprise organizations can control their rising healthcare costs while giving W-2 employees ownership over their individual health plans.
Enterprise adoption of ICHRA is accelerating. From 2024 to 2025, the HRA Council reported a 34% increase among large employers. This growth was driven by the need for predictable costs, flexible plan design, and better employee choice.
Here's how it works:
- Set defined, tax-free monthly employer contributions. You can tailor contributions based on employee classes, such as full-time employees or part-time, or location, such as rating areas, by age, and by family status. There are no annual limits on employer contributions. Employees then use their contribution toward individual health insurance premiums.
- Enable employees to choose their own coverage. Instead of getting stuck with a one-size-fits-all group health plan, your employees shop for individual health plans. Offering an ICHRA triggers a special enrollment period (SEP) for your employees. They can shop for an off-exchange individual health plan directly from their Remodel Health account.

Advantages of ICHRA for enterprise
Enterprise organizations can reap a wide range of benefits when they switch from group health plans to individual health plans through an ICHRA with Remodel Health.
These benefits include:
- Predictable, controllable health benefit spend. Enterprise organizations can establish predictable budgets and fixed contribution amounts for their employee health benefits. By doing so, enterprise organizations can control costs while offering their employees the flexibility to pick health insurance plans that fit their needs.
- Built-in support for multi-state teams. It’s not uncommon for enterprise organizations to have employees working in different locations or remotely. With ICHRA, employees can choose a health insurance plan that's valid in their specific geographic location. This is a great benefit for a multi-state workforce.
- Boost employee retention and satisfaction. According to PeopleKeep by Remodel Health’s 2024 Employee Benefits Survey, 92% of employees consider health benefits important. That level of importance translates directly into retention and performance outcomes, helping improve employee engagement, productivity, and long-term retention. It can also help enterprise organizations differentiate themselves in a competitive talent market and become more attractive to prospective employees.
- Compliance with the Affordable Care Act's employer mandate. To avoid federal employer mandate penalties, applicable large employers (ALEs) must offer employer-sponsored health benefits that meet minimum essential coverage (MEC) and minimum value standards. When ALEs offer affordable ICHRAs, it satisfies the employer mandate since employees need individual health insurance plans that provide MEC to participate in the benefit.
- Reduced administrative burden. ICHRAs are a great way to reduce administrative burden, complexity, and tasks. With ICHRAs, employees are responsible for plan selection and management, which saves enterprise organizations both time and effort. Remodel Health handles onboarding, employee notices, AutoPay for employee health insurance premiums, and supporting compliance reporting.
