Tailored ICHRA solutions for enterprise businesses
Group health insurance isn’t a good fit for every organization, especially large, distributed workforces facing rising premiums and limited flexibility. Instead, you can offer a cost-controlled and flexible individual coverage health reimbursement arrangement (ICHRA).
ICHRA offers enterprise employers a compliant, scalable alternative to group coverage that delivers predictable costs for employers and personalized coverage for employees.
As the nation's leading ICHRA provider, Remodel Health partners with large employers to give their teams more choice, flexibility, and control by empowering employees to choose the health plans that fit their unique needs.
Design, implement, and manage an enterprise-ready ICHRA benefit with Remodel Health:
- Control benefit spend
- Support multi-state and remote teams
- Meet ACA requirements
- Deliver a modern employee experience
Why enterprise organizations are rethinking group health plans
Traditional group health insurance was built for a different workforce era. Today’s enterprise employers face:
- Annual premium volatility and unpredictable renewals
- Limited plan options across states and regions
- Administrative complexity for HR and benefits teams
- One-size-fits-all plans that don’t meet diverse employee needs
ICHRA replaces rigid group plans with a flexible, employer-funded benefit that adapts to modern workforce realities.
How ICHRAs fit with enterprise organizations
ICHRAs aren't limited to small businesses. In fact, the federal government designed it with applicable large employers (ALEs) in mind.
Lawmakers established qualified small employer health reimbursement arrangements (QSEHRAs) in 2017 to support employers with fewer than 50 full-time equivalent employees (FTEs). In 2020, the Departments of the Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services introduced ICHRAs specifically to help large employers control their health benefits costs.
From 2024 to 2025, the HRA Council reported a 34% increase in ICHRA adoption among large employers in the United States. If your organization has more than 50 FTEs, ICHRAs are worth considering. Your enterprise organization can experience significant savings and revolutionize your employees' benefits.
Here’s how ICHRA works:
You set a tax-free monthly contribution for your employees.
Your employees choose their own coverage.
ICHRA contributions go toward premiums
Advantages of ICHRA for enterprise organizations
Enterprise organizations can reap a wide range of benefits when they switch from group health plans to individual health plans through an ICHRA with Remodel Health. These benefits include:
1. Predictable, controllable health benefit spend
Enterprise organizations can establish predictable budgets and fixed contribution amounts for their employee health benefits. By doing so, enterprise organizations can control costs while offering their employees the flexibility to pick health plans that fit their needs.
2. Built-in support for multi-state teams
It’s not uncommon for enterprise organizations to have employees working in different locations or remotely. With ICHRA, employees can choose a health insurance plan that's valid in their specific geographic location. This is a great benefit for a multi-state workforce.
3. Boost employee retention and satisfaction
When you offer your employees personalized health coverage options, you're contributing to their overall job satisfaction and well-being. This can result in higher retention rates and improved productivity. It can also set your enterprise organization apart from others and make it more attractive to potential employees.
4. Compliance with the Affordable Care Act's employer mandate
Under the federal government's employer mandate, ALEs must offer employer-sponsored health benefits that meet minimum essential coverage (MEC) and minimum value standards. When ALEs offer affordable ICHRAs, it satisfies the employer mandate since employees need individual health plans that provide MEC to participate in the benefit.
5. Reduced administrative burden
ICHRAs are a great way to reduce administrative burden, complexity, and tasks. With ICHRAs, employees are responsible for plan selection and management, which saves enterprise organizations both time and effort. Remodel Health handles onboarding, employee notices, AutoPay for employee premiums, and supporting compliance reporting.

STEP 1
Establish your budget and plan details
Our platform guides you through ICHRA setup, helping you design a compliant benefit plan that aligns with your budget and supports your employees’ needs.
After setting employee classes and contribution amounts, you’ll define key plan details. This includes the plan start date, premium contributions, the reimbursement process for any out-of-pocket expenses (if you enable this), and rollover rules. Remodel Health will then create a formal plan document outlining ICHRA terms and conditions, ensuring your plan is compliant and easy to manage.
Employers choose monthly allowances by employee class. While there’s no limit on employer contributions, each class must have an annual contribution cap. Once your ICHRA plan is up and running, employers typically need to manage the reimbursement process. This involves verifying that employees have eligible health insurance coverage and processing their reimbursement requests for qualified medical expenses.
To streamline this process, Remodel Health's software offers tools and one-on-one customer support to help you manage your ICHRA plan efficiently. When your employees enroll in coverage through the Remodel Health platform, we can automatically verify that they have eligible health coverage for the ICHRA. We also support AutoPay for employee premiums. We handle premium payments directly with your employees’ insurance carriers, eliminating the complex reimbursement process.
Clear communication is essential. Employees should understand their eligibility, allowance amounts, and how to select individual health plans. Employers must also provide a formal ICHRA notice at least 90 days before the plan year begins. Remodel Health will automatically provide this notice to your employees and host either virtual or in-person onboarding and education sessions with your staff.
STEP 2
Guided onboarding and enrollment
Successful ICHRA adoption depends on strong onboarding and enrollment support. Remodel Health provides expert guidance to ensure a smooth experience for both employers and employees.
Start by educating your employees about health insurance basics, including terms like deductibles, copayments, out-of-pocket maximums, and provider networks. Clearly explain available plan options, costs, and coverage differences. Annual reviews allow employees to reassess their coverage and stay informed about available benefits and resources. Remodel Health will provide in-person or virtual education sessions with your employees. We also have resources available to help educate employees about their new ICHRA benefit.
Employers of any size can offer an ICHRA as long as they have at least one W-2 employee. Employee eligibility is determined by employer-defined classes and whether the employee has qualifying individual health insurance that meets MEC requirements. Eligible coverage includes individual health plans and Medicare Parts A and B or Part C. Only W-2 employees can participate in the benefit.
Through our platform and licensed experts, employees can shop for individual health insurance policies directly from their accounts. They don’t need to navigate the ACA exchange alone or work with insurance carriers. Through Remodel Health, employees can access private exchange plans that may offer additional affordability and flexibility.
STEP 3
Experience the benefits of ICHRA
ICHRA provides employees with personalized coverage and potential premium savings, while offering employers tax advantages and predictable costs.
ICHRA empowers employees with choice over their health insurance coverage. Greater flexibility, easier plan selection, and cost transparency contribute to higher satisfaction and a stronger sense of value.
With their flexibility, cost control, tax advantages, and personalization, they offer a compelling alternative to traditional group health plans for employers.
Personalized coverage allows employees to choose health plans that fit their individual needs and life stages. This autonomy leads to higher satisfaction, and satisfied employees are more likely to stay.
